Alberts congratulates Kylie Minogue on being recognised with the 2025 Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music, presented at last night’s APRA Music Awards at Melbourne’s Town Hall. Kylie Minogue is a true pioneer in the Australian music scene – an artist whose influence has transcended genres, decades, and borders. This recognition is a powerful acknowledgment of her enduring impact.
“17-year-old me would not be able to compute the life that music has given me,” said Kylie via video from Los Angeles, where she is amidst her biggest American tour.
“I mean, we all know it’s work. You work for it. But I feel like whatever we give and whatever it might take from us, we receive more,” she added. “And as I’m on tour at the moment, I’m singing songs throughout my entire catalogue. So, from the first one, ‘The Locomotion’, right up to songs from Tension. And I’m really aware of, I guess, the passage of time and how much more music means to me.”
Over nearly four decades, Kylie has redefined pop music, from her breakthrough hit ‘The Locomotion’ in 1987 to her recent chart-topping album Tension. With over 80 million albums sold and a career filled with iconic moments, including two Grammys and numerous ARIA Music Awards, Kylie is one of Australia’s top selling recording artists of all time, whose influence reaches far beyond her music.

The national treasure joins Aussie music legends including AC/DC, Midnight Oil and The Wiggles as a recipient of the Ted Albert Award at the annual event celebrating excellence in contemporary music. The award, named after the late pioneering independent music producer and fourth-generation Albert family member, Ted Albert, was established by the Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA) in 1992, and recognises individuals or groups whose contributions have left a lasting impact on Australian music.
Jenny Morris, Chair of APRA, said: “Kylie’s huge body of work and stellar career have been a guiding light for so many Australian songwriters and artists who have looked up to her as a beacon of Australian music, and we look forward to seeing what the next chapter of musical greatness will bring!”
At Alberts, we celebrate the power of pioneers like Kylie, whose contributions continue to shape Australia’s vibrant music, arts, and entertainment culture.
